Cairo – Mubasher: The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed a framework agreement with Chinese chemicals manufacturer Befar Group to build the Green Marine project.

Green Marine will be a chemicals manufacturing complex that will be built in three phases within the TEDA-Egypt area in the Sokhna industrial Zone, according to an official statement.

The first phase will be built on 300,000 square metres with $250 million. It will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes of caustic soda, 50,000 tonnes of hydrochloric acid, 40,000 tonnes of bleaching materials and decolorising products for textiles, and 10,000 tonnes of bromine and its derivatives.

The first phase of Green Marine is expected to generate $230 million annually.

The second phase of the project aims to expand production to include chlorine, polyether, and polyurethane products to meet the local needs of industries such as automotive and building materials.

The phase will also include developing soda ash products essential for high-quality glass manufacturing and other applications.

The third phase will focus on utilising local C2-C5 resources to develop advanced technologies for producing new chemicals.

Earlier in June, Japanese manufacturer SARAYA Middle East opened a factory at the Orascom Industrial Park in the Sokhna Industrial Zone.
